About me
Marshall Matson is the Assistant Superintendent for Schools, Innovation, and Choice for Guilford County Schools in North Carolina. Leadership of career and technical education, school choice, and program alignment brings a district focus on postsecondary readiness for enrollment in college, employment, entrepreneurship, and/or enlistment in the armed services. He has been with Guilford County Schools since 2007, serving as an elementary and middle school principal, director of blended learning, principal supervisor, and chief of schools.
Prior to joining GCS, Matson was the program director at the North Carolina New Schools Project and founding principal of Edgecombe Early College High School. He began his career in education in 1991 teaching middle school English and social studies in eastern North Carolina as a Teach for America corps member.
During his educational tenure, Matson was honored as a finalist for North Carolina Teacher of the Year, selected as a NC Principal Fellow, served on advisory boards for Governors Hunt and Easley, presented the North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine and named a GCS finalist for Principal of the Year. Matson holds degrees from East Carolina University and the University of Georgia.
